There have been advances in dentistry throughout the last 30 years as there had previously but in diagnostics these changes are only recent but they are dramatic! At Pell City Dental we do our best to keep up with the changes, especially the ones that can improve our quality of care. Below are new technologies that we currently have that represent a tremendous improvement to our diagnostic ability.
TECHNOLOGY TO FIND CARIES AT EARLY STAGES
Technology to find caries at early stages allows us to treat more conservatively. We can remineralize, prep minimally with fissurotomy burs, use resin infiltration techniques, etc., so we can save our patients from more invasive restorative procedures and conserve their natural dentition. This is a big departure from traditional dentistry and traditional dental practices!
The camera heads are small enough for use on children and yet diagnostic for all types of patients.

Our patients have loved the technology! The images are so easy to understand and the guesswork has been taken out of diagnosing the small cavities! We are treating smaller lesions more conservatively than in the past and this is making long-term dental health much better!
CariVu continues in the long DEXIS tradition of providing intuitive, easy-to-use diagnostic tools for the dental community. The CariVu allows us to detect decay without any radiation! CariVu is a compact, decay detection system that uses transillumination technology to identify occlusal decay and fractures. It simply hugs the tooth with its near-infrared light, the CariVu’s transillumination technology makes your enamel appear transparent while porous lesions trap and absorb the light. This allows us to see through the tooth exposing its structure and the actual structure of any carious lesions with very high accuracy. More accurately than reading X-rays!
The use of advanced technology such as DEXIS Carivu in our practice allows us to provide comprehensive treatment, the imagery provided by DEXIS Carivu allows you to see what we can see! Carivu can reveal occlusal decay and fractures! The occlusal service of your tooth is the biting surface, decay and fractures on the biting surface of a tooth are often undetectable in a standard Radiograph.
Since there is ZERO Radiation from these diagnostic photographs, new images can be taken at each visit to monitor areas of concern and your overall oral health!
